It all started on a private jet...

…searching unfamiliar cities for florists at odd hours, often with little to no notice.

As a corporate flight attendant, part of my role has always been creating an experience for my guests, and flowers were an important part of that. Finding arrangements that felt exquisite, distinctive and appropriate for a private jet was surprisingly difficult. Too often, what arrived simply wasn’t what I had envisioned.

So I began creating them myself.

I started sourcing flowers, experimenting with unexpected combinations and teaching myself the art of floral design. What began as a solution to a problem quickly became something I genuinely loved: the opportunity to create with intention and use flowers to shape the feeling of a space and the experience within it.

Friends, clients and colleagues began noticing my arrangements and encouraging me to take my work beyond the aircraft. In 2020, Melrose began with holiday pop-ups and soon expanded into corporate events, everyday arrangements and other meaningful occasions.

My process often begins at the flower market. I’m drawn first to what feels interesting—the color, movement, texture or detail of a particular stem. Rather than beginning with a formula, I let the flowers guide the design. The result is an arrangement that feels considered, unexpected and individual, using varieties you may not see every day.

Today, Melrose is returning to where the idea first began: PRIVATE AVIATION.

I understand that flowers aboard an aircraft have to do more than simply look beautiful. They need to complement the interior, reflect the expectations of the guests, withstand the unique environment at 40,000 feet and feel like a natural extension of the experience being curated, from departure to destination.

Melrose was created to bring that level of thought and design to private aviation; distinctive florals, created specifically for the way you fly.

“I’m drawn to flowers that feel unexpected, bold combinations, interesting movement and details you don’t see every day. Flowers are beautiful on their own, but when the right stems are brought together, they become something more. They create a feeling, a moment, an experience that is difficult to put into words.”

Where did the name MelRose come from?

One of my pilots came up with the name ‘MelRose’ when we were on a trip. Originally I called my floral business ‘Flora’ but he said “you’re Mel and a rose is a flower, you should be "MelRose”. I loved it and it felt right, so here we are, MelRose Floral Design from San Diego, CA.
